Palisade Pale Ale

Palisade hops are fairly quiet in the brewing world. They were bred from Swiss Tettnanger, and are grown in the Yakima Valley, Washington. They were bred for higher alpha acid content and for dual usage as a bittering and flavoring agent, a current trend in the hop world as they provide brewers a cheaper, more effective bittering agent while still having dry-hopping and flavoring potential in paler beer varieties, typically English or American India pale ales, ESBs, and pale ales.

Palisade hops are great blenders and typically find themselves in friendly company with high myrcene content hops such as Chinook, Nugget, Citra, and the other American hop powerhouses that have found good company in American IPAs, DIPAs, and pale ales. Often described as earthy in flavoring, Palisade hops have large apricot, gummy candies, and tisane (herbal teas) qualities that blend well with large citrus and pine hop bombs currently in vogue.

Flavor Notes

Large wafts of tropical fruits and gummy candies spill from the rim of the glass as this copper-colored ale is poured. Medium-bodied, with sweeter, gummy notes from the honey malt, this pale ale is a back-and-forth between malts and hops. Slightly warming, the palisade hops shine through, with their nectar-fruit aromas and herbal, tisane-like flavors and complexion.
